What would you think if I say Breakfast at Tiffanny´s? Maybe that black Givenchy gown behind the window, and if I say Indiana Jones? Fedora and leather jacket? That shows how important the custom design is in cinema.
From 20th Victoria and Albert Museum will host the Hollywood Custome exhibition with these customes among 100 pieces. A trip trough the History of cinema, and probably trough your life too.
¿En que pensarías si os digo "Desayuno con diamantes"? Puede que en ese Givenchy negro detrás de la ventana. ¿Ysi os digo "Indiana Jones? ¿Sombrero y chaqueta de cuero? Esto demuestra la relevancia que tiene el diseño de vestuario dentro de la industria del cine.
Desde el 20 de Octubre Victoria and Albert Museum albergará la exposición de Trajes de Hollywood, con estos trajes entre otras 100 piezas. Un viaje a través de la historia del cine, y probablemente también a través de vuestras vidas.
It has taken five years to bring together all the pieces for the exhibition, many of them have never been seen by the public, so it is one in a lifetime to see in the same room pieces such as the ruby slippers of Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz, the green velvet dress of Scarlett O´Hara or bloody vest that Bruce Willis wore in Die Hard.
Cinco años ha costado reunir todas la piezas para la exposición, muchas de ellas nunca han sido exhibidas en público, así que es un momento único para admirar en la misma sala piezas como los zapatos de rubíes de Dorothy en el Mago de Oz, el vestido de terciopelo verde de Escarlata O´Hara, o el chaleco ensangrentado que llevó Bruce Willis en Jungla de Cristal.
Colleen Atwood, Jacqueline Durran, Kim Barrett, maybe these names don´t say much to you, but these are the Custom Designers of Awarded films, who work very hard in order to reflect the scrip on the screen.
The exhibition is divided in the rooms.
Act 1: Deconstruction. The custom designer has to know the character before starting the creating proccess, that means a lot of research, the final custom will show on the screen a funny Marilyn in a chiffon black dress in "Some like it Hot" telling more in a second that what she could explain herself.
They need to place the script in the era and know the appeareance of the actor, I could not think for a better choice that the Keira Kightley´s green dress in Atonement, a gown who steals the spotlight in every scene.
Collen Atwood, Jaqueline Durran, Kim Barret, puede que esos nombres no os digan mucho, pero son diseñadores de vestuario con películas galardonadas, que trabajan muy duro para conseguir reflejar el guión en la pantalla.
La exposición está dividida en tres salas.
Acto 1: Deconstrucción. El diseñador de vestuario tiene que conocer muy bien al personaje antes del proceso cretaivo, eso significa mucha investigación, el traje final nos mostrará a una Marilyn ligerita con un vestido negro de gasa transparente en "Con faldas y a lo loco" contando más de ella en un segundo de lo que ella misma podría explicar.
Es imprescindible situar el guión en su época y conocer la fisonomía del actor/actriz, no puedo pensar en una elección más acertada que el vestido esmeralda que luce Keira Kightley en "Expiación", roba todo el protagonismo en cada escena.
Act 2: Dialogue. Once the custom is designed is time to discuss with the creative time and the film director, he will have to decide the final result. What would have happened if the director had changed the dancefloor white suit of Tony Manero in Saturday Night Fever?
Acto 2: Diálogo. Una vez que el traje está diseñando es momento de discutir con el equipo creativo y el director, él tendrá la última palabra sobre el diseño final. ¿Que hubiese pasado si el director hubiera cambiado el traje blanco de Tony Manero en Fiebre del Sábado Noche?
Act 3. Final. Un glamuroso night club de hollywood con todos los personajes icónicos y sus trajes, James Bond, Neo , Drácula, Hans Solo, Holly Golightly, Batman o Harry Potter. Su vestuario es la mitad de su personalidad.
And if you like the exhibition, at the shop, you will be able to purchase the book and other things specially designed for the ocassion, posters with film scripts such as Titanic o Top Gun (the scene whe Goose dies), Darth Vader´s helmet and mask, or a jewelry colecction inspired in the Wizard of Oz, you know "just close the eyes and tap your heels together three times".
