I laughed when I read that an irate Upper West Sider had launched a campaign to ban the new Sugar and Plum because it would encourage chilhood obesity. Imagine! A block from the schoolyard. The truth is that the 4,300 sq-ft sweets emporium offers sugary debauchery and savory too, for all ages just like Jacques Torres and 16 Handles down the street and Emack and Bolio Ice Cream few steps north.
Here, in a David Rockwell design with clever cutout curlicues hiding the kitchen, a mosaic of goodies on the floor, a wall of candies by the pound and macarons in a blinding technicolor tapestry, is temptation in 3-D!!
Me hizo gracia cuando leí que un airado vecino del "Upper West Side" de NYC, había puesto en marcha una campaña para prohibir elnuevo local que Sugar Plum iba a abrir en el barrio, ya que alentaría a la obesidad en los niños. Imaginate! A una cuadra del colegio. La verdad es que los mas de 2000 metros-cuadrados que ofrece el local están llenos de dulces -y también ricos salados-, para todas las edades, al igual que "Jacques Torres y 16 Handles" o la heladería "Emack y Bolio" de la misma zona.
La tienda, un diseño de David Rockwell con columas graciosas que esconden la cocina, un suelo en forma de mosaico de dulces, una pared llena de caramelos al peso y macarons en un deslumbrante tapiz technicolor, es la tentación en 3-D!

If you're looking for lighter fare, their salad menu offers options from hummus to beet to whole grain. They also have blended fruit smoothies available and the sides menu includes fresh fruit and berries as well as lemon spinach and green beans, so delicious!
